Mar 8 – 14 WORK WEEK:
A week of physical work to prepare for the new season, at a reduced rate of £80.
 
 
Mar 15 - 18 (3 nights inc. lunch on 18th)
ENTERING HOLY WEEK
Walk into the last week of Jesus’ life with new friends and new insights.

Can be booked together with “The Cross and the Resurrection” as a 9 night programme.

Mar 19th - 24th (5 nights)
THE CROSS AND RESURRECTION
'....if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.' Join the story and test the truth.

‘He has been raised from the dead, and indeed he is going ahead of you...’ A chance to explore what this might mean, and get a taste of life in community on Iona.

STUDENTS’ WEEK
Resident Aliens - Christian Reflections on Knowing Your Place In The World
We will be exploring questions of loyalty, allegiance and lifestyle in relation to class, culture, nation/state and planet.
Led by Doug Gay, Lecturer in Practical Theology and Emerging Church activist, and Lance Stone, Minister/Theologian and Dylan fan.
April 5 - 11th
 # Acting Justly: There are more people living in absolute poverty today than ever before, whilst at the same time other people have unprecedented levels of wealth. What does it mean for Christians today meeting in one place to relate to people living in very different situations in other parts of the world? How can we act justly? Led by Daleep Mukarji, director of Christian Aid, together with a Development Partner from the Global South.

April 12 – May 23rd
A GATHERING PLACE
Gather for one week, to discover sacred space and create community with guests and Abbey staff through worship, doing essential domestic tasks, and journeying on together as pilgrims. There will be time and space to turn up the volume on scripture readings, lots of opportunities for creative expression in the craft room and through music, and the invitation to engage in those tasks that housekeeping, maintenance and gardeners need extra help to get done. For groups, families and individuals (Children’s Programme available for the first week). Come for any of these six weeks, arriving Saturday and leaving Friday morning.

The Holiness of Place
Where do we belong? Who are we? Alastair McIntosh, author and activist, will help us to get to grips with issues of spirit, land and identity, and will be joined for part of the week by Kathy Galloway, Leader of the Iona Community. This week is being held in partnership with Greenbelt; providing leadership and making community.
May 31st - June 6th
# Holy Places in Highland spirituality: ‘There are no sacred places, there are no special things. All are God’s and all is sacred.’ So what about abbeys and islands, sheep pens and emigrant ships? Exploring some of the best and least-known holy places of the Highlands and Islands and beyond. With Gaelic prayers and poetry in translation. Led by author Mary Low and Morag MacNeill.
 
Jun 7 - 13th
# Celts, Saxons and Spirituality: A week of prayer with the original poetry and prose, Gospel books and stone crosses of the early Christians in Britain and Ireland. Led by Rosemary Power, a Member of the Iona Community, who writes on medieval and contemporary Gaelic tradition, together with musicians Sheila and Ann Crotty using traditional and contemporary music from the Gaelic world.

# Rediscovering Sacred Time: Sabbath and Jubilee
Using Scripture and experience as our guides, we will
consider how work, rest, creativity and justice may be
integrated into lives of joy and purpose. Led by Mary Brownlow, an Associate Member of the Iona Community, pastor in the United Church of Christ, and hospice chaplain.

# The Marks of Christian Spirituality: In the brokenness of Christ and in our own brokenness the Christian finds life and purpose. Martin Shaw (the Scottish Episcopal Bishop of Argyll and the Isles) explores what it means to live this life in a fractured world.
 
Jun 28 - July 4th
# Dancing in Fire: A creative exploration of God and the feminine. For people of all faiths. Led by Kathy Galloway, Leader of the Iona Community, and Joyce Gunn Cairns, artist and member of the Iona Community.
 
July 5 - 11th
 # Rebuilding Walls and Extending Boundaries: From a starting point of reflections about home and how it contributes to our identity - material, emotional and spiritual – the week will look at opportunities for practical involvement with people and communities, locally and internationally, who are excluded from a decent, settled home. Janice Clark (Habitat for Humanity Development Officer, Scotland) and Alastair Cameron (Chief Executive, Scottish Churches Housing Action) will present ways in which local faith communities can be part of the housing story.This week is offered in partnership with Christians Aware.
 
July 12 - 18th
FAMILY HOLIDAY WEEK
A week to explore the island and enjoy being creative in community. An all age programme, suitable for individuals, families and small groups.

# Weaving Community in the City: How do we offer hospitality to people of other faiths? The week’s workshops will consider issues of inter-faith and partnership and the new ecumenism of cross-community collaboration for the common good. Led by Sam Randall and Denise Poole from their experience in Bradford.
 
July 26th - Aug 1st
YOUTH FESTIVAL
A programme of activities designed for both fun and challenge.
With an emphasis on participation, this week is aimed at groups of 15-17 year olds and their leaders.

Aug 9 - 15th
Family Holiday Week with the Ashram Community, exploring Christian Community in the 21st Century. Led by John and Grace Vincent with extended family.
 
Aug 16th - 22nd
Sharing Stories: Jan Sutch Pickard, Member both of the Iona Community and the Scottish Storytelling network, will tell tales of Iona, Mull and much further afield, and bring out the storyteller in each of us.
Aug 23rd - 29th
Family Holiday Week - A week to explore the island and enjoy being creative in community. An all age programme, suitable for individuals, families and small groups.
 
Aug 30th - Sept 5th
# Believing in Britain: Ian Bradley, minister, author and broadcaster, reflects on the overlapping spiritual identities which make up Britishness and the extent to which it provides a broad, hospitable, inclusive identity which can encompass both long-term inhabitants and more recent immigrants.
 
Sept 6 - 12th
Pilgrim Church, Pilgrim People
An exploration of the theme of pilgrimage as it has been understood Biblically, historically and in contemporary terms. Why has there been such a resurgence of interest in pilgrimage over the last thirty years? As more and more people describe their faith in terms of a journey, Ian Bradley and Ray Simpson seek to discern the marks of a pilgrim church. Ian Bradley is an author, Ray Simpson Guardian of the international Community of Aidan and Hilda at Lindisfarne Retreat on Holy Island and Kathy Galloway, Leader of the Iona Community, will be here for part of the week.
Sept 13 - 19th
# Taking the Song back Home: A ‘how to’ week for people who want to enable singing and music back in their home churches. Alison Adam (Iona Community Member) & Gillian Cummins (Abbey musician 06/07) will facilitate a week on music-making for congregations - with an emphasis on how to make the best of what you’ve got.
 
Sept 20 - 26th
 # What does Love require of me? A week on Quaker Spirituality, led by Jane Fitzgerald and Susie Tilzey, focusing upon prayerful discernment for action towards justice and peace. We shall be using Helen Steven’s booklet ‘No extraordinary power?’ together with the Quaker Testimonies Toolkit which focuses on peace, simplicity, truth and integrity, equality and environmental sustainability.
Sept 27th - Oct 3rd
# The Shape of the Church to Come: We are living between the no-longer and the not-yet; the church is no longer the powerful, dominant force it once was, and we cannot see clearly what shape it will take. A chance to think about some possible futures. Led by Kathy Galloway, Leader of the Iona Community, and Steve Butler, musician and Episcopal priest.

# Bread and Poetry: George Macleod, founder of the Iona Community, once said ‘The greatest community problem of our modern world is how to share bread.’   Bread only becomes real when shared – there’s no such thing as my bread. Poetry comes alive when read and heard – there’s no such thing as my poem. This week we’ll make bread and poetry - a sharing, hands-on experience of dough and words, with Helen Lambie, baker, and Joy Mead, poet.
 
Oct 25th - 31st
Open Week: Welcoming church, school and community groups, families and individuals, of all ages and nationalities. Finding community together, and sharing in a programme devised with community staff in consultation with visiting groups.
