Camas Programme 2008

CAMAS CENTRE INFORMATION & PROGRAMME 2008

Camas is a remote and beautiful centre beside the sea, a mile over the moors from the nearest road. Housed in recently renovated 19th Century cottages, with its own organic garden, it operates on principles of community, simplicity and environmental sustainability


Group Bookings:

From May to October, the majority of weeks are available for group bookings, where the programme is tailored to meet the needs of the group(s) and could include outdoor activities, gardening and environmental projects, art and crafts and a trip to Iona. Guests arrive Saturday and stay 6 nights, departing on Friday morning. Minimum group rate £2,050: this includes up to 11 people. Significant discounts available for larger groups.

Individual Bookings:

Work Weeks: A week of physical work, laughter, conversation and evenings spent relaxing around the fire. Come and help us to prepare the centre for the new season (15-21 March) or to close it down for winter (25-31 October). Offered at the reduced rate of £75 ppp 6-night week, £15 per night


Community Kids' Week: 2-8 August A week reserved for the children (and grandchildren) of Iona Community Members. Limited to kids aged from 10-17. Costs £175 per child.


Themed weeks: Individuals: £205.00 per person for themed weeks (low income rate £102.50 available for UK residents)

21-27 June: Reading the Big Book
The Celts spoke of two books in which it was possible to discover or ‘read' God. The little book was the Bible, the Big Book was creation. A reflctive and recreational programme reading in the season of long daylight, spectacular sunsets, growth and fruitfulness. Led by Kathy Galloway , Leader of the Iona Community.

20-26 September: Reading the Big Book 

The Celts spoke of two books in which it was possible to discover or ‘read' God. The little book was the Bible, the Big Book was creation. A reflective and recreational programme reading in the season of transition and change, of darkness, starlight and peat fires. Led by Kathy Galloway , Leader of the Iona Community.


27 September - 3 October: Telling Tales (or Stories Around the Fire…)


A week of storytelling: come to hear and share stories from Mull, Iona and further afield. Led by Jan Sutch Pickard (member of both the Iona Community and the Scottish Storytelling Network) and Margaret Stewart (member of the Iona Community).


4-10 October: Raising Voices and Beating Drums 

A week of making and sharing music through our voices and instruments! This is a participatory programme for people of all musical interests and abilities, and with a particular focus on folk music. There is no need to read music, sing or play perfectly – just the need to enjoy it and to want to spend a week sharing music in a relaxed, informal and fun way!
