The first time I ever led a morning service in Iona Abbey, I read this poem as the prayer of thanksgiving. After the service, several people came up to me and thanked me. They were delighted and moved and couldn't believe you were 'allowed' to read e.e. cummings in church – I was a little surprised myself. It was the first time on Iona that I felt that I was 'home'. Or at least in the right place for the moment. (ed.)
